Today Resilient Elections is joined by Ericka Haas and Steve Trout to continue their discussions on academic and administrative partnerships.
Ericka Haas is a Systems Engineer and Technical Liaison at the Electronic Registration Information Center. Her work centers around systems of voter registration. Her design has withstood the test of time in the Oregon system and her ongoing reflections contribute to our understanding of elections today.
Steve Trout is Director of Elections for the State of Oregon. His interest in election auditing in Oregon stems from a dedication to reassuring public confidence through accessible audit reports.
Using ballot return data and other forms of system feedback, Haas and Trout offer insight into how best to administer secure and accessible elections during the COVID-19 crisis. Catalyzed by COVID-19 and their continued analysis of Oregon voting data, we anticipate the rollout of an efficient, responsive election system in the coming years.
As a collaboration between the Early Voting Information Center (EVIC) and the Caltech/MIT Voting Technology Project, Professors Paul Gronke (Reed College) and R. Michael Alvarez (Caltech) facilitate dialogue between leading election scholars, administrators, and innovators. By encouraging academic partnerships and community outreach alike, Resilient Elections ascertains how best to proceed with election administration this November and beyond. Stay tuned for upcoming conversations on forging academic-community relationships, vote-by-mail and polling in the era of COVID-19.
