About the Survey
The 2023 Survey of Local Election Officials (LEOs) is the fifth survey conducted by the Elections & Voting Information Center (EVIC) at Reed College. We are using this survey to lift up the voices of LEOs in national, regional, and state conversations about election administration, integrity, and conduct. The Survey provides LEOs with an important, timely, and respectfully brief opportunity to weigh in on issues of concern in the profession.
EVIC fielded the 2023 LEO Survey from mid-July to mid-August, 2023 through our collaborative partner, SSRS (with whom EVIC also collaborated on the 2022 LEO Survey). We appreciate the thoughtful responses that we receive from so many LEOs and the dedication and skill of our colleagues at SSRS.
The 2023 LEO Survey is supported by the MIT Election Lab; the 2018-2022 LEO Surveys were supported by Democracy Fund. We are grateful for their support for our work, and that of Reed College – and for democracy in the United States.
The principal investigators for the LEO Survey project are Paul Gronke, PhD and Paul Manson, PhD. Project management, communications, and administrative support for LEO Survey project is provided by the EVIC team.
Confidentiality and Security
The Reed College Institutional Review Board has approved this project and has been certified as meeting all ethical guidelines for research. All responses to the survey will remain strictly confidential. Neither individual names nor jurisdiction names will be released, and only aggregate group characteristics will be published. As an additional layer of privacy, all completed surveys are identified by a random identification code. Survey responses are stored separately from any identifying information.
